Google Maps update brings different colour schemes with a cleaner appearance

Google has released an update to its Google Map service on major platforms such as Android, iOS and Web. The new update comes with a clean look and more user-friendly appearance initiating a new tweaked topography and removing the existing road outlines. This new Google Map update will bring more points of interest, train stations and other spots.

Zhou Bailiang , UX Designer, Google Maps and Mark Li, Software Engineer at Google, said that “Google is updating Maps for desktop, Android and iOS to give it a cleaner look and make it visually appealing. “The real world is changing every second and Google Maps is changing with it,”. They also said that they have improved for the typography of street names, points of interest, transit stations, and more to make them more distinguishable from other things on the map, helping you navigate the world with fewer distractions.

The update also shows new shades to depict different districts. The focussed on highlighting necessary information on the map without overcrowding it, therefore they removed elements that are not required which results in cleaner look. This enables users to see helpful and accurate actionable information like traffic and transit. Google has also rolled out “Wi-Fi only” mode to its Maps app through an update. Users will have to get Maps v9.32 installed in their smartphones to use the feature, although the new feature is being rolled out in stages. The WiFi-only option is available in the Settings menu of the app.

The updated map app will display points of interest in Orange colour such that users can simply check out for areas orange shaded areas for noting the points of interest. Clicking and zooming-in to orange-shaded area will show more details about each venue. The different colour schemes in Google Maps will enable users to differentiate between man-made or natural features. They will also determine “areas of interest” with an algorithmic process which will also highlight the areas with highest concentration of restaurants, bars and shops or localities like hospitals, schools or highways.

Google Maps will now show local information in new ways using new colour scheme. The “areas of interest” or places where there’s a lot of activities and things to do will be represented in orange. Google determine “areas of interest” with an algorithmic process. The process basically highlights the areas with the highest concentration of restaurants and shops. “In high-density areas like NYC, we use a human touch to make sure we’re showing the most active areas,” Bailiang and Li added.

Google Maps now has a subtle color scheme to differentiate between man-made or natural features. This helps users identify places like hospitals, schools or highways. With the new updates, Google is aiming to make Maps easier to use.
